Christmas project 2!

This cute little reindeer comes from a book by Clare Youngs, called Scandinavian Needlecraft. Originally designed as a toy, I filled him with rice and made in to a festive doorstop.
It has the pattern in the book, you just have to enlarge it and then you’re good to go. I simplified the embroidery, but it has designs to follow if you wish.

Make your own font!

These are my new labels for my partridge designs.

I wanted to share because I found this amazing website which converts your handwriting in to a font. I’m sure many of you have found this already, but it was a bit of a revelation for me!

The website is: http://www.myscriptfont.com . Basically you download and print a template which has boxes for each letter. You fill it in, scan it and then set it working, and out pops a custom made font. Think of the possibilities!

The cards were printed by moo.com, who I also highly recommend.

Happy font making!

Simple printmaking!

I bought this lovely book at the weekend. It has all kinds of easy but effective ways of printing, like mono printing effects and making stamps out of foam. Hopefully I can try some and show you some of the outcomes, but if you want a book as a beginning to printmaking, I would recommend this one.
Happy printing!

Once upon a time there was a partridge called Perkins….

This is the first drawing a did of the partridges which are making up my latest collection. I didn’t set out to make him a partridge, my Mum looked at him and decided that’s what he looked like!
After that, I couldn’t help but refer to him as ‘Perkins’! As you can see, I couldn’t draw legs at this point… Check out http://www.lisa.durrant.co.uk to see the finished designs.

Knitting and Stitching show 2014

Last Friday I visited the Knitting and Stitching show. For those of you not in the know, it is an annual exhibition and retail show held at Alexandra Palace, which has a range of professional and graduate shows, with some incredibly detailed and experimental work; demonstrations and ‘have a go’ areas ( I had a go at Tatting!) alongside a very large shopping area. If you are textiley or crafty you will find very hard not to be tempted by all the goodies!
I thought I would share a photo of some of the little bits I picked up from a company called Textile Garden who had some lovely ribbons and buttons that were right up my street – interesting and detailed but not too girly! Also very tempted to try out a dress pattern sold by Sew Over It who run dressmaking classes, but have brought out some of their own patterns too in simple vintage inspired shapes.
Enough of my waffling. Bottom line- if you are interested in textiles there will almost certainly be something for you.
